3D Rockfall

an advanced tool to understand the phenomenon and protect the territory

Hy-STONE

The Hy-STONE Software used for rockfall analysis allows the execution of “physically based” 3D models with the following characteristics:

  • 3D simulation of free fall, impact and rolling of non-interacting blocks on a topography deriving from the DEM (no limit of resolution);
  • Kinematic hybrid approach (free fall) and dynamic (impact and rolling) with the availability of different contact functions;
  • Stochastic approach: DEM resolution + pseudo-random parameters variation;
  • Impact on the structures (e.g. buildings, barriers, surveys, tunnels) and trees;
  • Input and output in GIS-compatible raster and vector formats;
  • Analytical skills at different scales;
  • Graphical user interface (GUI) in GIS environment.
